COLOSSEUM SHADOWS: Exports

Regarding ear crops, all of the COLOSSEUM SHADOWS Cane Corsos we've produced and pictured here on ItalianCaneCorso.com have been professionally cropped by my vet who has specialized in canine ear crops for nearly 30 years. He's learned the Cane Corso crop well since I introduced him to the breed nearly a decade ago and has since cropped all my litter's ears. Other Cane Corso owners (and some breeders as well) who have seen my dogs at shows and events have expressed regret that too many miles separate them from Dr. Nunn and his ear crops.
With this breed there are basically 3 acceptable crops.

The original Italian "rustic" crop where most of the ear is removed:
I also call this one the "Cocomo cut" after the style of crop worn by one of my all-time favorite Corsos (3xCH Cocomo was one of the Italian imports from the 1st litter of pups brought to the U.S. in 1988). I also sometimes refer to this crop as the "bear crop" because it's a more rounded ear rather than sickle/point. This original "rustic" crop, or "Cocomo cut", or "bear crop" is my personal favorite but I only had my 1st litter cropped this way and no others since then upon finding that most Americans aren't used to the true & traditional Italian Cane Corso crop. They are more comfotable with the long pointed style of crops used on Dobermans, Danes, Boxers, etc because that's all they've seen all their lives. But this is an Italian CANE CORSO and not one of those other breeds. Nevertheless, due to the desire of the majority of those looking for Cane Corsos, the pictures you see here at ItalianCaneCorso.com of Cerberus, Dorado, and Lucca "Luke" Del Colosseo (all from our very 1st litter) with their rustic, true and traditional Cane Corso "bear crops" are the only ones you'll see cropped like that here. Again, those 3 came from our 1st litter and that was the last time I had Dr. Nunn crop any of our litters with the true Cane Corso crop. In all of our litters since then we've offered the "medium crop".

The "medium" crop:
Like PRIMUS. And like Dolce. And like Ceasar, Chesty, Reno, Cubi, etc, etc. With the exception of those of our very 1st litter (Cerberus, Dorado, and Lucca) who all have the original true Cane Corso "Cocomo cut", all the rest of the Cane Corsos produced and pictured here on the COLOSSEUM SHADOWS website have the "medium crop". If you want to know what style of crop you will get if you have my vet crop your pup's ears, just look at the many photos posted in the COLOSSEUM'S "HALL OF IMAGES" of the Cane Corsos we've produced after the 1st litter. That's what you will get if you choose to have your COLOSSEUM SHADOWS pup's ears cropped by the vet here.

The "long" crop:
Like Peperoncina Rovente (Red-hot Chilipepper, "Pepe"). Though still short compared to the long crops of Dobermans, Danes, Boxers, etc, it's LONG for a Cane Corso. And too long for me! It's too far from the original, rustic, true & traditional Cane Corso crop for my taste. And though Pepe looks good with it, it's because a face like that would look good with anything (except an uncropped ear). Like my favorite "rustic" "Cocomo" "bear" crop, we also don't do the "long" crop.
We offer the "medium" crop here. Or the natural uncropped ear.

NEW POLICY effective Oct.2004--
Ear crops are now OPTIONAL. You can have your pup's ears cropped or uncropped -YOUR CHOICE. Ears will still be cropped by the best Cane Corso ear sculpturer in the world, Dr. James Nunn DVM, but ONLY BY SPECIFIC ORDER of the new puppy owner. The charge for this option is $350 which is the typical charge to an individual by the few vets left who still crop ears. Those who request this option understand that I will be acting simply as a "go-between" you and the vet to get your pup's ears cropped. Our taking your pup to the vet for the ear crop AT YOUR REQUEST is done AS A COURTESY to our customers who are finding it harder and harder to find any vets out there who will crop ears or that can crop them correctly. We will treat your request to do this as if you yourself were setting up the ear crop using Dr. Nunn as the vet of YOUR CHOICE (you are indeed requesting that we do this for you and you are including an additional $350 above the pup price for the ear crop and our aftercare of the ears until the pup is delivered to you) therefore the pup owner who requests this courtesy will be responsible for any ear that doesn't look/lay/or stand symetrical to the other due to one ear having a natural fold or crease that is different from the other ear. This is something that occurs ONLY OCCASIONALLY (about one pup in every other litter). The ears are always cut evenly/symetrically (Dr. Nunn actually uses the 1st removed ear as a pattern, laying it on the opposite one and drawing an outline to ensure they are cut exactly the same) but on rare occasion one ear will have a natural crease/fold that is different than the other ear causing it to lay or stand a little different from the other (usually in these cases the difference gradually decreases, becoming less noticeable as the pup grows and as the ears thicken/strengthen). For the occasional pup that this occurs with, note that this would happen whether its ears were cropped here or somewhere else, therefore we are shifting the responsibility for the outcome of the ear-crop to the customer but offering the access and transport to/from the vet here *AS A COURTESY* to those who would like us to do this for them.
